Request Union Rep / Grievance Assistance

Our union is happy to support housestaff in resolving situations where disciplinary action is taken against them or where they feel UMMC or their program has violated a written policy or some aspect of our collective bargaining agreement (contract).

It is important to know that if you are reaching out about a potential grievance, that grievances can fall under the following 4 categories:

Contract Interpretation Grievance

This is any grievance tied to the interpretation, application, or alleged violation of any of the provisions of our Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Note: This includes alleged violations of ACGME or other accreditation standards as per our CBA Article 7, Section 7.1.

If you think an improper contract interpretation or outright contract violation is occurring, please submit a grievance by clicking the button above.

Alleged Clinical, Professional, or Academic Deficiency Grievance

These deficiencies are a failure by a housestaff member to demonstrate one or more of the core competencies based on issues of clinical performance, ACGME program requirements, or program requirements established by other accreditation bodies or certifying Boards.

Any deficiency that results in counseling / remediation, adverse action, suspension, non-renewal, or termination of a housestaff member may be grieved.

Alleged Administrative Misconduct Grievance

Administrative Misconduct is any conduct by a housestaff member that violates a Medical Center policy, which is not a Clinical, Professional or Academic Deficiency.

If you disagree with the circumstances surrounding the alleged administrative misconduct, you can submit a grievance to clarify your record and resolve any potential disciplinary actions that occurred in relation to the alleged administrative misconduct.

Non-Grievance Work Issues or Concerns

This category is for any issue or concern you have that doesn't fit into one of the other 3 categories , but that is impacting your working conditions in some way that you would like our union to potentially assist with.

Note: our union will do our best to help guide you through these reported issues if they are in our purview, or we will try and guide you to the proper existing avenues for resolution.
