Bargaining Tracker & Updates
Back when we were bargaining, we ran a bargaining tracker where you could check out which contract proposals we had brought forth during collective bargaining and their status. The tracker was updated after each bargaining session to share our progress on winning a historic first contract! We also shared bargaining summaries below and via e-mail and Instagram! As of Sept 2, 2025, we officially have signed our first collective bargaining agreement (contract) with UMMC!

TL;DR: We did it y’all!! We reached a full tentative agreement! We negotiated a 20% salary increase over the next 3 years, 4 weeks paid vacation, 3-fold increased education stipend, Step 3 coverage, parking & meal stipends, a commitment to cleaner, more functional work spaces, and more! We hope you ratify!

TL;DR: UMMC’s offer would steadily help housestaff over our 3-year contract, but we still need more of the benefit upfront. We provided an immediate counter that they want to consider until we meet next on July 1st. We will continue to engage our community and plan our next steps to prepare for their response.

TL;DR: Our petition action had a clear impact as we saw a sudden shift in the administration’s tone, with them saying they hear us “loud and clear” on our salary arguments and now promising significant movement in their upcoming economic counterproposal. They also expressed a desire for collaboration on the design and renovation of the spaces we work in every day.

TL;DR: We had three bargaining sessions focusing solely on economics. We’ve made large adjustments to the economic package, but haven’t seen the same degree of movement from UMMC. In our experience and with the support you all have shown with the CEO petition, we still believe that they have plenty of room to move on salary and other economic benefits.

TL;DR: Thursday’s session was productive, with engagement on key economic issues like parking, meals, leave, and facilities standing out as highlights, marking a return to meaningful bargaining as opposed to simply trading proposals with limited discussion. While no TAs were reached, we made a lot of progress on understanding each other’s positions. However, UMMC constantly leans on claims of uniqueness, complexity, and precedent to resist change.

TL;DR: UMMC provided a comprehensive economic counter that was not only markedly less substantive than our original economic proposal, but also minimally different from our existing contracts. They also expressed their displeasure at our line-the-hallways action, and used it as justification to unilaterally cancel the following bargaining session on 4/11. We will be sharing more details about the session, their proposals, and bargaining in general in a new series of Zoom meetings, the first of which will be this Wednesday, 4/16, at 7 pm. TLDR: It has been 60+ days since we introduced our economic package, and UMMC has yet to discuss salary or key benefits with us. We're 6 months into bargaining, so we demand they start addressing Housestaff priorities now! Sign the contract action pledge to join efforts to put pressure on UMMC for timely negotiations.

TLDR: We reached 3 TAs on more non-economic articles and continue to work diligently on negotiations with Admin on remaining non-economic proposals. Admin has signaled that official counter-proposals on our economic package will likely be ready by our bargaining session next week. We plan to hold them to it with the help of all the housestaff.

TLDR: Admin had questions on our economic proposals to understand current processes and procedures, demonstrating an ignorance of how diverse our program experiences can be and highlighting the importance of engagement from all housestaff during the bargaining process so our team can speak for everyone. We also reached two effective TAs on non-economic articles and a plan for counter-proposals on remaining non-economics.

TL;DR: We delivered our complete economic package to Admin with a stellar presentation backing up our asks with the information and stories you have shared. As we anticipate rebuttals from Admin on economics and non-economics, keep up the supportive energy so Admin remembers they are not bargaining with just the housestaff across the table, but with the 950+ housestaff at UMMC.

TL;RD: We got remaining counter-proposals on non-economic items, TA’ed two proposals (union security and moonlighting), and exchanged essential information that will help us continue bargaining effectively and come to a compromise on other items.

This session was more back and forth on some non-economic proposals and a discussion to hammer down dates for bargaining in the new year and finally approaching economics.

TL;DR: We had two back-to-back bargaining sessions that allowed us to build on discussions and come to an agreement on four proposals, totaling six TAs so far. We explained the remaining non-economic proposals by sharing stories we gathered from housestaff with Admin. As we continue to work on the economic asks, keep those testimonials coming.

TL;DR: We had two bargaining sessions last week that were congenial with a bit of back and forth on several proposals, might be close to more tentative agreements soon! We’re shifting the focus to economic proposals that we have been working on and hope to introduce those ASAP. Plan to continue the current bargaining schedule and set dates in the new year.

TL;DR: We reached a tentative agreement on two proposals, Labor Management Committee and the Non-Discrimination Clause. We introduced three more proposals related to moonlighting rights, the privacy of the EAP program, and union representation on hospital committees. Admin provided counter-proposals to some of our original proposals that we will review and discuss at our next session.

TL;DR: Bargaining started today!
We delivered the first 18 non-economic proposals of our future contract to fairly positive reception. UMMC will betaking the next two weeks to review further and will come back with their critiques and suggestions at our next meeting on 11/7.
